My brain gets hyper and I think about weird crap.
A lot.
I also like to rant.
A lot.
Sometimes, things happen in my life.

And now I'm occasionally writing some of it down- when I haven't got exams, that is.

“Start writing. Write your own stuff because no one’s going to write anything for you. Perform only with people you get along with, because life is too short. Write about what you know. Find your distinctive voice. Don’t be so adaptable to what your boyfriend thinks is funny; remember that you’re rock solid. Make yourself laugh. If you’re funny, it doesn’t matter what you look like.”

Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

First Book wants to give away 1 MILLION BOOKS TO KIDS IN NEED OVER THE NEXT 10 DAYS. Here’s the catch: We want the world to know about the issue of illiteracy and how they can help us fight it. In support of our effort, we will give away a book for every “re-blog”, “retweet”, and “share” we get of  this message on twitter, tumblr and facebook. Get to sharing.

Seriously?
This is a post, on tumblr of all places, with over 60,000 notes?
I really worry about the world we live in sometimes.

“And if the girl you’ve taken for a drink happens to belong to the ‘25%’ group and won’t ‘spread for your head’, think about this mathematical statistic: 85% of rape cases go unreported. That seems to be fairly good odds. (Uni Lad does not condone rape without saying ‘surprise’).”

A recent article from UniLad, a decently-sized online lad magazine with a fan base eager to support it. Fuck, that’s terrifying. (via cateematthews

I think it must be months since I wrote an original post on tumblr. I wish it was because my life was so damn exciting that I haven’t had time to waste on the internet, but it’s actually the polar opposite- revision.

So that means all I have to write about are exams.

Hold on to your hats, this is going to be an exciting read!

I’ll start with the worst one: Core 3. I had high expectations going in to this exam, which made it all the more painful when it went so badly. For the first half an hour I was feeling good. There wasn’t much trig, I was barely making things up, and I didn’t multiply 3 and 2 to get 5. Everything was going well. Then question 6 appeared and spanked me with everything I felt least confident about in the form of a 9 mark question which I could barely start, leaving me shocked and hurting. Question 7 just stood by and laughed.

My teacher’s reaction to seeing the paper was “there’s always the re-sit in the summer”. Excellent.

Chemistry seemed to go about as well as maths. However, it left me feeling slightly less suicidal because I expected it to be the worst exam. I forgot words I should have known, then remembered them walking home. I worked out the full name of a complex ion for a single mark, when it only asked for the name of the ligand. I wrote the same things over and over again, because I didn’t know what else the answers could be- but there’s no way 3 different questions needed virtually the same explanation of hydrogen bonding.

Biology is always a weird one to work out. Vague questions on vague topics that need very specific answers to score any marks. It’s possible to write two paragraphs worth of true, relevant stuff and get no marks at all. And this unit is awful. I really couldn’t give a shit about the number of woodlice on a roundabout captured and marked by someone with far too much spare time and old nail varnish. I think it would be far more interesting and useful to study the people who have dedicated their lives to finding new ways of estimating the number of voles in a hedgerow. Try to discover whatever it is that made them so chronically dull. My bet is on a suppressed, traumatic childhood event.

It’s getting late, I’m getting bitter, and my other exams actually went quite well. So I think I’ll leave it there and go to bed.

This is a petition on the Directgov website - this goes straight through to parliment and at the current time of posting it only has 21 signatures

I know a lot of people are reblogging the one sponsored by anonymous which is great but if you live in the UK, this is going to be your best best at getting yourself heard about ACTA - even if you don’t live in the UK or even the EU, PLEASE REBLOG THIS, as ACTA is something that not only affects Europe but the rest of the world as well and this could be one of the only opportunities for it to be downturned

America isn’t the only ones having problems, guys. The same way SOPA and PIPA threatened the future of all countries through example, ACTA is working on settling in as one of the many bricks in the wall.

Reblog, sign, do what you can.

why does this only have like 2000 signatures? sign!!

If you’re a British citizen, sign.  It won’t let me.

At TEDWomen, Tony Porter makes a call to men everywhere: Don’t “act like a man.” Telling powerful stories from his own life, he shows how this mentality, drummed into so many men and boys, can lead men to disrespect, mistreat and abuse women and each other. His solution: Break free of the “man box.”

Glad I watched this. Everyone should listen to this guy. I don’t just mean on tumblr. If people started taking notice of what he’s saying then the world might be a slightly better place for women to live.
